SIGNE H. NAKKULA THOMPSON's Obituary
SIGNE H. NAKKULA THOMPSON, 92, of L’Anse passed away Friday, May 6, 2005 at Bayside Village following a lengthy illness. She was born in Touva, Finland on August 6, 1912 daughter of the late Ivar and Anna (Liisa) Rinta. Signe attended schools in Covington and Pequaming. She married William John Nakkula; he preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Ward Thompson; he also preceded her in death. Signe was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse and the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, cooking, playing cards, including pinochle and doing laundry. Signe was proud of the fact that she learned to drive at age 60.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her loving daughters, Beatrice Harju of L’Anse, Barbara DesLaurier of Aura, Marjorie Majeski of Warren, MI. and Kathleen Lukas of Shelby, Twp., MI., 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister, her grandson, Ricky, and 3 son-in-laws.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 from United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. The family received friends at the church on Monday, May 9, 2005 from 1 p.m. until time of the service. Interment took place in the Aura Cemetery. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse was entrusted with arrangements
