STANLEY WAARA's Obituary
STANLEY WAARA, 76, of Baraga, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at Marquette General Hospital. He was born in Baraga on April 4, 1936 the son of the late Walfred and Pearl (Oja) Waara. Stanley graduated from Baraga High School in 1954. He proudly served in the US Marines during the Korean War. In 1967 he married the former Rosalie A. Shulstad in Baraga. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2004. Stanley worked at White Pine Copper Mine until his retirement in 1967. He was an active member of the Baraga American Legion Post #444, and former member of Bay Ambulance. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting at Camp Silvertip.
Mr. Waara is survived by his sons Joseph Waara of Baraga, and John Waara of Naples, FL, daughters Dianne Waara of Baraga, Suzanne (Erik) Conte of Billrica, MA , Terri (Tom) Jedda of Hancock, and Beth (Joe) Fish of Baraga, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother Gerald (Mimi) of Kewaunee, WI, sister Dorothy Mayo of Baraga, and sister-in-law Janet Waara of Marquette. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Eugene and John, sisters-in-law Sharon Waara and Janice Waara, brother-in-law Robert Mayo, and his nephew Jason Mayo.
Funeral services for Mr. Waara were held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 12 noon at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse, MI. Visitation was held at the funeral chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. A Baraga area veteran’s military service was held at 11:30 a.m. under the direction of the American Legion Baraga Post #444. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery.
