TAMARA K. 'TAMMY' HEIKKINEN's Obituary
TAMARA K. “TAMMY” HEIKKINEN, 52, of Pequaming, MI., passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, MI, following a one-week illness. She was born in Mount Pleasant, MI. on April 2, 1958 the daughter of Arthur “Skip” and Lillian (Bittner) Barrett. Tammy graduated from Baraga High School in 1976. She then attended Michigan Tech University and graduated from Northern Michigan University with her degree in Education. Tammy married Robert “Bob” Heikkinen in L’Anse on August 31, 1980. She taught kindergarten classes at CJ Sullivan School, L’Anse for over13 years. Tammy was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse, the Book Club, the Golf Club, and was a MEA member. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, fishing, spending time with her grandchildren and family get togethers.
Mrs. Heikkinen is survived by her loving husband Robert “Bob” Heikkinen of Pequaming, son Todd (Krystal) Heikkinen of Ishpeming, daughter Jennifer (Chris) Davidson of Hancock, grandchildren Keegan, Kayden, and Nolan, father Arthur “Skip” (Cindy) Barrett of Baraga, brothers Arthur Jr. (Janine) Barrett of Baraga, and David (Tracey) Barrett of Baraga. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and her father-in-law Carlo Heikkinen also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian in 1989, and her mother-in-law, Isabelle in 2008
A memorial service for Mrs. Heikkinen was held at 12 noon Saturday, April 9, 2011 from United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor John Autio officiating. The family received friends on Friday, April 8, 2011 at the United Lutheran Church, L’Anse from 6 until 8 pm and on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service. Memorials in Mrs. Heikkinen’s honor may be directed to CJ Sullivan School or United Lutheran Church.
