TERRENCE N. "SKINNY" KENT's Obituary
TERRENCE N. “SKINNY” KENT, 62, of L’Anse, MI. passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in L’Anse on June 20, 1948 the son of the late Kenneth and Connie (LaBelle) Kent. Skinny graduated from L’Anse High School in 1966. He had been employed at the L’Anse Post Office as a mail carrier and retired in 1992, following a 25-year career. He married Ann L. Ashton on January 12, 2006 at the L’Anse Court House. Skinny was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, the L’Anse Golf Club, and the L’Anse American Legion Post 144. In addition to his job as a mail carrier, Skinny enjoyed coaching the American Legion Baseball team, supervising the basketball courts and weightlifting activities for Community Schools, doing landscaping jobs for family, working for many businesses downtown, and fishing… especially fishing. Delivering his prized catch to elders and friends made him even happier. He was also a prime mover in creating the township baseball diamond. Skinny was a sports car fan, and had a selfless personality. He was known as a “creature of habit”.
Mr. Kent is survived by his loving family; wife Ann of L’Anse, children Scott Michael (Kathleen) Kent of Nome, Alaska, and Nola (Craig) Asgaard of Grand Rapids, MI., grandchildren Kaya Kent, Taylor Asgaard, and Connor Asgaard, brothers Roger (Sharon) Kent of Big Lake, Deane (Mary) Kent of Shepherd, MI. and Donald Kent of Crosby, TX, and sister Cheryl (Roland) Swartz of L’Anse. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his special cousin and close friend Bobby Kent.
Funeral services for Mr. Kent were held at 11 am Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father John Longbucco officiating. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 6 until 8 pm and on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the L'Anse Golf Club. Memorials in Skinny’s honor may be directed to the family.
