THEODORE "TED" KUBIT's Obituary
THEODORE "TED" KUBIT, 93, of L'Anse passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at Bayside Village where he had been a resident for a few days. He was born in Milwaukee, WI. on January 5, 1913 son of the late Jacob and Sophie Kubit. They moved to Antigo, WI. when he was a child and he attended school there. Ted returned to Milwaukee as an adult to work and he met his future wife of 65 years, Margaret Moilanen of Keweenaw Bay. During the Great Depression Ted worked throughout the various government CC camps in northern Wisconsin planting trees and building parks. Ted and Margaret were married in 1941 and settled in Antigo, WI. In 1957 they relocated to L'Anse where he worked at Lakeview Lumber Co. He started his own business, Kubit Electric and Heating until his retirement in 1982. Throughout his life and career he was known as a hardworking, caring, and honest individual. He often willingly got up in the middle of the night in the cold of winter to service a customers furnace that was not working. Ted served as both a Councilman and Mayor of L'Anse in the 1970’s. He enjoyed time with his family, playing cards, reading and fishing. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to him and he loved unconditionally.
Mr. Kubit is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, children, Richard (Lynn) Kubit of Riverside, IA., Theodore "Wayne" (Diane) Kubit of Sylva, NC., Gary (DeNiele) Kubit of Virginia Beach, VA., Steven (Pam) Kubit of Fayetteville, GA., Karen (Dan) Perras of Howell, MI., Diane (Robert) Kent of L'Anse, and Joanne (Michael) Ollila of L’Anse, 17 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Kubit, brother, William and sisters, Mary and Helen.
A memorial service for Mr. Kubit was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Judy Mattson officiating. The family received friends on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse from 1 p.m. until time of the service. Following the memorial service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. Memorials in Mr. Kubit’s honor may be directed to the Baraga County Community Foundation. The family has entrusted the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with arrangements..
