Thomas L. “Tom” DesRochers, age 82, of Pelkie, MI passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. Tom was born in Hancock, Michigan on the 29th of September 1937 to Lawrence and Dorothy DesRochers. W Read Obituary
What an amazing gift to all the students at LHS that he helped. Thanks to the scholarship he helped me obtain, I had a wonderful college experience and very little debt. He expected you to do your best and you never wanted to let him down.
Tom's family, I just read of Tom's passing. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I was a student in L'anse in the 70's when he counseled. He was the nicest and most helpful guy I've ever met. He knew my siblings and I were orphans and he did everything could to make sure we took the courses we were interested in and then got us all of the scholarships he could get for us. He was almost a father to us. For my last two years of high school I worked in the office next to him as a secretary so I ran into him frequently and he always had something to say with a smile on his face. I hope you find comfort in the many people who adored him. May God be with you and with him. He will be missed.

Many student problems were solved in his office at LHS, as he always had time for anyone who entered. Everyone was treated with respect and left feeling better after meeting with him. His quick wit, contagious smile and grace were unmatched. RIP and I’m sure the flowers are beautiful in Heaven!

A great friend and teacher. Glad I was able to sit with him for awhile last summer. Beautiful day on his back deck. He will be missed.

If you wanted a student to emulate a dedicated teacher and counselor you would tell them to follow in Mr. DesRochers footsteps. Mr. DesRochers was a teacher who truly believed in the worth of each and every student. Tom was a counselor who truly cared.
A light has passed, however because of the students he inspired the shadow will always remain.

I am so sorry of Toms passing. I did not know him long maybe a year as we had Chemo together for a while. He was always smiling and positive even the day I saw him at Bay Clinic in Lanse .Rest In Peace Tom!
