THOMAS JOHN FOMISH, JR.'s Obituary
THOMAS JOHN FOMISH, JR., 33, formerly of L’Anse and currently residing in Iron River passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in Caspian, MI. He was born in L’Anse on December 20, 1977, the son of Tom and Kim Fomish, Sr. Tom resided in three Lakes, MI. with his grandparents John and Helen Fomish until they moved to L’Anse for Tom to attend L’Anse High School. Tom, also known as T.J. attended and graduated third in his class from L’Anse High School in 1996. He also graduated from Michigan State University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition in 2002. Tom played hockey as a child and also was involved in basketball, football and track. He was known as a “gentle giant” and was a very kind hearted person. He loved his children, animals, sports, fishing and being in the U.P.
Tom is survived by his children, John Thomas age 7 and Opal Rose age 4 and his former wife Katie Watson of Vandercook Lake, MI., his mother and step dad Kim and Wil Codman, sister Staci Moorehouse and two nieces, half brother Scott Codman all of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, maternal grandparents, 2 aunts, cousins, and many friends who loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, and his paternal grandparents.
A memorial service for Tom was held at 12 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2011at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. His family and close friends greeted classmates and friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service. Following the service, friends were invited to a luncheon and to share memories of Tom at the Best Western Lakeside Inn, Baraga. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Tom’s honor may be directed to a trust fund for his children. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
