THOMAS L. COLLINS's Obituary
THOMAS L. COLLINS, 56, of Skanee, MI. passed away at his residence Wednesday, February 28, 2007, following a six-month illness. He was born in Alpena, Michigan on May 15, 1950, son of Edward and Jeanne (Sicotte) Collins. Tom attended school in Alpena and graduated in 1968. Tom enrolled at Michigan Technological University until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was stationed at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force base as an aircraft mechanic. Following his discharge, he returned to college at Michigan State University where he earned 2 Bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics. After his graduation, Tom was employed by the Sperry-Rand Corporation in New York, where he was assigned to the nuclear submarine division. While working at Sperry-Rand, and for 10 years after, Tom owned and operated several taxicabs in New York City. He moved to Skanee in 1997 to help care for his mother and assist his brother at the Trading Post store on Skanee Road. Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse
Mr. Collins is survived by his loving mother, Jeanne Sebald of Skanee, brother, John Collins of Skanee, sister, Valda (Norman) Peterson of Jackson, MI., nieces, nephews and cousins and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend, Kay Albright. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Edward, a sister, Jeanne Anne and brother, Edward S.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father George Maki, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Sunday evening a parish prayer service was held in the funeral chapel at 7 p.m. The family has entrusted the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with arrangements.
