Timothy R. "Tim" VanBuren's Obituary
Timothy R. "Tim" VanBuren, age 70 of Skanee, MI passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Villa at Traverse Point in Traverse City, MI. He was born in L’Anse, MI on June 3, 1955 the son of the late Charles Ray and Arline (McDonald) VanBuren. Tim graduated from L’Anse High School in 1973. He had worked for various companies as a block mason and logger. Tim was an extremely hard worker during his life and he took a lot of pride in that. He was an extremely skilled woodsman as well as a very gifted and self-taught stone mason. He was well known around the area for his abilities in construction and logging. Tim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Skanee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, local history and learning new things. Above all, Tim loved his family and cherished his time with them.
Tim is survived by his loving sons; Derek VanBuren of Negaunee, Drew VanBuren (Ashley Schauble) of Chandler, AZ, and Alex (Tyler) VanBuren of Baraga, grandchildren Eli, Amelia, Jameson and Sawyer, siblings, Wayne Abba, Clint (Jane) VanBuren, Vanessa (Tim) Houle all of Skanee, Jennie Weiger of Sparks, NV, Warren (Cindy) VanBuren of Oconto, WI, and Mark (Kathy) VanBuren of Lakeside, CA. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clay VanBuren and sister Doris (Abba) Cote.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. At 4 p.m. Tim’s celebration of life will continue at The Finns Bar and Grill, Skanee.
