I send my condolences to the family of Toini. She was such a wonderful and delightful lady! Everyday she had a smile on her face. She appreciated everything about life and loved to share stories of her family and friends. I will always remember her sweat voice and the memories we shared. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
My condolences to the family. Toini Heikkinen was my beloved piano teacher at Gettysburg College 1967-1970. I appreciated her encouragement and her gentle, musical instruction! My mother, Pearl Hoffman (close in age to Toini and her neighbour at Spring Avenue in Gettysburg for a year), sends her sympathies and thoughts as well.

I had the pleasure and honor to meet Toini at Bayside Village. What a great lady! Such wonderful stories from an accomplished woman who gained an education in a time when women did not, made her mark with her talents, and was proper, even reminding me that my speech needed improvement ! (It did) Toini was proud of her husband, children and home, and she loved her piano students. Even a few weeks before she died, she was teaching us piano at Bayside Village. She could do it in her sleep! She loved talking Finnish, in the "older style". My world is better having known Toini. God Bless.
Hello. This is Ruth Heikkinen writing, Norman Heikkinen's second daughter and Toini's grand-niece. I wanted to pass on my sympathies. I hadn't seen Toini in many years, but remember her so fondly from my childhood. She was my piano teacher when she and Uncle Jake lived in Silver Spring, MD, and was such a great teacher. I am out of practice now, but learning to play again is one of my goals now partly because I remember what joy my Aunt Toini took from the piano. I also remember being so excited to visit my Aunt Toini and Uncle Jake at their lake house when we were up in Houghton for the summer. Such a gentle soul she was.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of such a great lady. I had the pleasure of Great Aunt Toini giving me a piano lesson as a child when she visited my Grandmother Uder. A memory I cherish. I remember speaking with her nearly every Christmas when she called to speak with her sisters Helen and Sylvia. Such a sweet voice with kind words that I will always remember. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
