TYYNE V. LaFOREST's Obituary
TYYNE V. LaFOREST, 79, of L’Anse passed away Saturday evening, April 17, 2010 at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit following a lengthy illness. She was born in Herman, MI. on June 18, 1930 the daughter of the late Nestor and Hilma (Tikkanen) Leppanen. Tyyne graduated from L’Anse High School in 1949. She married Harold P. LaForest in Negaunee in 1952. He preceded her in death in 2000. Tyyne was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, the former St. Rita Circle and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Tyyne was employed as a nurse in Negaunee for a number of years and held a number of jobs in the L’Anse area including working at the Hilltop Restaurant. She was an accomplished artist, offering her paintings locally, enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts and rock polishing. Above all, Tyyne loved her role as a homemaker.
Mrs. LaForest is survived by her loving sons, Thomas (Connie) LaForest of Brillion, WI., James (Diane) LaForest of L’Anse, Ron LaForest of Marquette, and John (Brenda) LaForest of L’Anse, grandchildren Stephen, Wes, Kenny, Abigail, and Chole, sister, Irma Haanpaa, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friend Bernice Haapala. She was preceded in death by her sisters Miriam, Ann, and Vivian.
