VERA M. MAKI's Obituary
Vera Matilda Maki age 91, of Watton passed away on November 1, 2014 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. Where she had been a resident for 1 year. She was born in Watton on April 19, 1923, the daughter of the late Sam and Matilda (Ketola) Pihlajamaki. Vera attended school in Watton. On March 7, 1945 she married Eli Leonard Maki. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1986. Vera was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. She worked in Detroit at an aircraft plant during the war. She had also been the cook at the Covington School for 25 years. Her hobbies include: baking, making quilts, painting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, making rag rugs on her loom and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Maki is survived by 2 sons: Carey (Sharon) Maki of Watton, Steve (Beverly) Maki of Watton, 1 daughter Elora (Phillip) Collins of Watton, 10 grandchildren: Duane (Shawnna) Thiele, Jamie (Keri) Maki, Tammy Berg, Tim (Kelly) Maki, Marisa Edberg, Jessica (Nick) Green, Scott (Krista) Collins, Kerri, Jackie and Kellie Collins, 9 great grandchildren, and her brother Edsel Maki of Stambaugh. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Eli, 2 daughters Beverly and Joan, 3 brothers Arnie, Asser and Wilho and 4 sisters Aili, Sadie, Ellen, and Theresa.
Funeral services for Mrs. Maki were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Reverend Ray Kovala officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
Interment took place in the Covington Cemetery.
