VERNA M. JOHNSON's Obituary
VERNA M. JOHNSON, 79, of Baraga, passed away Monday evening June, 9, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.. She was born in Laurium, MI. on October 22, 1928 the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian (Lampela) Johnson. Verna graduated from Calumet High School in 1945. In 1948 she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing. She married Carl Johnson in Laurium. He preceded her in death. Verna was employed at the former Winklers Nursing Home in L'Anse for 12 years and then worked at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, retiring after 22 years. She enjoyed baking, reading, and crafting. Verna loved her animals and spending time at her summer home in Rabbit Bay.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her loving children, Andrew Johnson of Baraga, Jerome Johnson of Omaha, NE, Cookie Joe (Kimberly) Johnson of Grand Rapids, Della (Bob) Beach of Keweenaw Bay, and Karen (Clayton) Harris of Gretna, NE, grandchildren, Sandy, Rex, Coral, Tim, Kyle, Jeremy, and Mikala, great grandchildren, Shannon, Braydan, Brooklyn, Jayden, and Royce, and brother, Carl (Marlene) Johnson of Laurium. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Shelly.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
