VIOLET IDA JOHANNA "VI" JOKIPII's Obituary
VIOLET IDA JOHANNA "VI" JOKIPII, 77, of L'Anse passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at Bayside Village, L'Anse. She was born in Toivola, MI. on October 8, 1930 the youngest child of the late Nestor and Anna (Autio) Maki. She attended school in Misery Bay and graduated from Jeffers High School in 1950. She married Paul Gordon Jokipii on June 5, 1954 in Toivola. They were together for 50 years until Gordon passed away September 9, 2004. Vi was employed in Detroit as a bank teller and drapery maker at Castelman’s and in L'Anse as a ward clerk at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Among Vi’s many talents were oil painting and wedding cake decorating. She currently enjoyed crocheting, attending church services, spending time with her family and friends, and playing bingo to win prizes for her grandchildren whom she was very proud of. Vi was a very caring person who often put the feelings and needs of others before her own. Vi had a strong belief in God and although she will be sadly missed, she is finally at peace by his side.
Mrs. Jokipii is survived by her loving children, Susan (Roger) Copley of L'Anse, and Kevin (Marie) Jokipii of Centerline, MI, 4 grandchildren, Acacia and Kaila Copley of L'Anse, and Annabelle and Samuel Jokipii of Centerline, MI., one sister, Evelyn (Stuart) Olson of Misery Bay and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Jacoby and Elida Jokipii both of L'Anse. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman and Edwin and sisters, Helen, Bertha, Edna, and Julia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jokipii were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2008 from Grace Free Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor Dean Franz officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and for 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.
