VIRGINIA A. DOLLAR's Obituary
VIRGINIA A. DOLLAR, 93, of Baraga passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse following a short illness. She was born in Bruce Crossing, MI. on December 17, 1916 daughter of the late Jacob and Hilda (Heikkinen) Niemi. Virginia attended school in Bruce Crossing. She had worked as a housekeeper for a doctor in Detroit, she was a waitress in Ewen, a store clerk in the Bruce Crossing Co-op and she was co-manager of the Big Spruce Golf Course until her retirement in 1982. Virginia married Howard Dollar in Marquette, MI. on October 19, 1956. He preceded her in death in 2003. Virginia enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, canning vegetables, cooking, golfing, cross country skiing, shopping, traveling, photography, and dining out.
Mrs. Dollar is survived by her loving children, Jeanette (David) Magadanz of Marquette, Susan (Steven) Cadeau of Baraga, and Annie (Mark) Morrison of Brookland Park, MN, daughter-in-law, Ora Lee Westie of Ontonagon, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, brother, Eugene Niemi of AZ., sisters, Ruth Karainen of Trout Creek, Miriam Teikari of Painsville, and Lorraine Salonen of Trout Creek. Other family members also survive. She was preceded in death by her son Philip, and 5 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dollar were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Deacon Bob Wahmhoff officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Hillside Cemetery, Bruce Crossing, MI. The family received friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the funeral service on Sunday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
