VIRGINIA A. "GINA" GIPP's Obituary
VIRGINIA A. “GINA” GIPP, age 72, formerly of L'Anse, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at the Renaissance Hospice Unit, in Olmsted Falls, Ohio with family by her side. She was born on April 18, 1937, in Waukegan, Illinois, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Goglio) Plante. Gina grew up in Mohawk, MI. and graduated from Calumet High School. She attended Northern Michigan University's nursing school and trained at Dickinson Memorial Hospital, where she earned her LPN degree. Gina also worked for 10 years at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse and volunteered many years at the Senior Citizen Center in L'Anse. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse. Gina will be remembered for her part in “raising a neighborhood” of kids and being the neighborhood first aid station.
Gina is survived by her 4 children, Stephen (Lorena) Gipp of Kimberly, Wisconsin., Julie (Mark) Bogden of Bay Village, Ohio; Thomas Gipp of Wausau, Wisconsin; and Karla (Darryl) Shann of Escanaba, Michigan; and their father, Karl Gipp of Skanee, Michigan; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Gipp (fiancée Amber) and Andrew (Abbey) Gipp, Jonathon and Adam Bogden, Daniel Gipp, Sarah and David Shann; 1 great grandchild, Elleson Gipp and another great grandchild due in July. Gina is also survived by her brother, Vince (Mary) Plante, of Gladstone, Michigan; niece and nephew Nadine and Deric Plante of Appleton, Wisconsin; cousin Dora Gipp and her children Lori (John) LaSpada, Chris (Michael) DeGrandis, and Tracy (Christopher) Hobbs and their families.
A memorial service for Gina was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Father John Longbucco officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Calumet, Michigan. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the service at the funeral chapel, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gina's honor may be directed to: Bay Senior Transportation, c/o Dwyer Memorial Senior Center, 300 Bryson Lane, Bay Village, Ohio 44140 who for 4 years made sure Mom got to her dialysis treatments, three times a week.
