VIRGINIA M. CAMPBELL's Obituary
VIRGINIA MAE (MAKI) CAMPBELL, 74, of Ontonagon and Covington, MI went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2012. She suffered a stroke and passed away at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital. Virginia was born on April 30, 1938 in Watton, MI to Eino Maki and Pauline Rantanen Maki. She attended Covington Township Schools and graduated from L’Anse High School. While employed as a civilian at Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago, Virginia met and then married William James Campbell. They lived in Illinois and later moved back to Covington. Virginia was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #8945 where she enjoyed volunteering to make pasties. Virginia also spent time employed at Covington Rest Home attending to the needs of the elderly. She enjoyed listening to her radio and watching old movies. Virginia was selfless and very accepting of everybody she met; if she had one dollar left in her wallet, she gave it away to someone she thought needed it more than her. She loved socializing and laughing with her friends and family. Above all, Virginia was a very proud mother and grandmother. She loved showing off pictures of her family and telling stories of their lives and successes.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Eino and Pauline Maki; her husband, William James Campbell; her brothers, Kenneth and James Maki; and a nephew, Joseph “Joey” Maki. She is survived by brother, Fred Maki of Watton, MII; daughter, Tamara (Campbell) Howard of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sons, Terry Campbell of Leesburg, VA, and William Campbell of Ontonagon, MI; 13 grandchildren: Michael Gill, Casey Gill, Tyler Gill, Phillip Howard, Rachel Howard, Rebecca Howard, William Campbell, Jessica Campbell, Cody Campbell, Lindsay Campbell, Hayden Campbell, Shelby Campbell, and Courtney Campbell; 2 great grandchildren; Tyrese Partin and Caleb Partin, niece Tracy (Maki) Taylor and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Campbell were held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington, MI with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service. Virginia was laid to rest, following the service, at Covington Cemetery. A luncheon at the church followed.
