WAYNE L. "EINAR" VELMER's Obituary
WAYNE L. "EINAR" VELMER, 48, of L'Anse, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse, following a lengthy illness. He was born in L'Anse on September 3, 1960 the son of Melvin Velmer and Eleanor (Mantila) Taylor. Einar graduated from Baraga High School in 1978. He worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for various construction jobs. Einar married the former Diane Heikkila in Pelkie on July 17, 1982. He was a member a Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie. Einar enjoyed playing the drums with various bands and had performed with his mother for local dances. He idolized his son and was fond of camping. Einar was a "people person" and loved talking to and visiting with those he met.
Mr. Velmer is survived by his loving wife, Diane, his son Derrick at home, father Melvin Velmer of Pelkie, mother Eleanor Taylor of Hancock, brothers, Dennis (Julie) Velmer of Alston, Randy (Barb) Velmer of Alston, and Mark Velmer of Pelkie. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services for Mr. Velmer were held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 20, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor David Weber officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral chapel.
