WILFRED A. BUNKER's Obituary
WILFRED A. BUNKER, 80, of Baraga, MI. passed away Monday, October 2, 2006 in Baraga, MI. He had been in ill health for several years. Wilfred was born in Oconto Falls, WI. on September 3, 1926 son of the late Amos and Dora (Dashner) Bunker. He graduated from Oconta Falls High School and worked for a short time for the Frigo Cheese Company in Lena, WI. He was a career service man in the US Army and retired with the rank of Sergeant after 20 years of service. Wilfred married the former Esther Uusitalo in Milwaukee, WI. on December 5, 1970. While in Milwaukee he was employed for General Electric as an electrical inspector in the pacemaker division until ill health forced his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Baraga, Baraga American Legion Post 444, and was a lifetime member of the Milwaukee American Legion. Wilfred's leisure activities included gardening and fishing.
Mr. Bunker is survived by his loving wife, Esther, step children, Wesley Kaurala of Baraga and Sylvia (Daryl) Jestila of L'Anse, step grandchildren, Gail, Tim, Amy, Arnold, Kim, Cindy, and Peggy, 9 step great-grandchildren, brother, Robert Bunker of Las Vegas, NV., and sister, Carol.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2006 from St. Ann's Catholic Church, Baraga, MI. with Father George Maki, celebrant. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery. Family members honored Mr. Bunker as casket bearers. The family received friends on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and 1 hour prior to Mass at church on Friday. Baraga County Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors Thursday evening at the funeral chapel at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. The family has entrusted the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with arrangements.
