WILLIAM A. "BILL" SELDEN's Obituary
WILLIAM A. "BILL" SELDEN, 81, of L"Anse, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Bayside Village following a lengthy illness. He was born in Baraga on January 13, 1928 the son of the late Russell J. and Winifred G. (Berg) Selden. Bill attended school in Baraga and L'Anse. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge Bill sailed the Great Lakes for 25 years. He was then employed by the Celotex Corp. for 18 years and retired in 1991. Bill was a member of United Methodist Church, L'Anse. He was a self taught musician and played the guitar and harmonica. Bill enjoyed singing and was a good yodeler. He was a true Michigan sport fan and cheered on the Red Wings, Tigers and Lions.
Mr. Selden is survived by his sister, Patricia "Pat" Miller of L'Anse, nieces, Katy Allen, Tammy Williams, Michelle Jezek, and Debra Barazzi, and nephew Robert Selden. Numerous cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Eugene and Russell.
A memorial service for Mr. Selden was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor John Henry officiating. Interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel at 3:30 p.m. Following the services the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and refreshments in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral chapel.
