William R Carkeek's Obituary
William R. Carkeek, age 97, of Baraga, MI. passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Greenland, MI on October 25, 1920, the son of the late Arthur and Alverna (LaRochelle) Carkeek. William attended school in L’Anse. He served in the United States Army during World War II. William married the former Pearl Thomas in Detroit, MI on November 20, 1941. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2015. William had been employed as a machinist at Ex-Cello in Royal Oak, MI until his retirement. The family moved back to Baraga in 1981. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and the L’Anse VFW Post #3897. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and camping.
Mr. Carkeek is survived by his children, Beverly (James) Mayo of Baraga, Shirley Carkeek of Baraga and Ricky Carkeek of Arizona, grandchildren Stacey (Rich) and Jeff (Cassie) and great grandchildren Taylor, Lyndsey, Morgan and Kayla. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Bob and Ted and sister Geraldine.
Family services will take place.
