I am a 1986 graduate of BHS. Mr. Heino was my Civil War and Government teacher. I learned volumes if history from him. I loved to listen to his stories and descriptions of places in the "deep south". I now live in the "deep south" and live near many of the places he spoke of... and I think it is neat that I know the history of my surroundings! I have often thought..this is what Mr. Heino was telling us about!

To Lisa, Jeff, and Mrs. Heino, my sincere condolences on the passing of your father and husband. I believe most have reflected just what he meant to all of us growing up in Baraga, and the positive impact he's had on our lives since attending BHS (1980 graduate). He was an inspiring teacher (I'm a History Channel Nut, too!), and really a true, genuine, great person! I've lived away from Baraga for years since finishing school, and when I was in Baraga a few years ago, our paths crossed at the post office. Without hesitation, he had a big smile, he reached out to me, and asked how things were going. We had a super visit!
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

I was the 1983 Senior Class President of Baraga High School. On Behalf of ALL the former students we send our sympathy. Mr Heino, you were not only our friend, but an inspiration for all of us. You will always be remembered as a person that truly cared and loved teaching.You shared your passion for life with us and you will always be remembered. As you would always say when giving us an extra homework assignment, "I don't want to short change you!" Mr Heino, we were NEVER "Short Changed" by you. You have taught us well and have inspired us. I am a 1982 graduate of BHS and Mr. Heino was always one of my favorite teachers. That probably explains my current addiction to the History Channel. I still remember playing sweepstakes in his class. He made learning fun, a truly great teacher. I also know Jeff and Lisa well as I graduated between them and lived across the field from them in my school days. My sincere condolences to the family.
I am a 1971 graduate of Baraga High School at the time when Al was High School principal.I wasn't always the model student and ended up in the principal's office a few times. He was always so nice and I had many conversations with him while in school and after graduation. I used to enjoy it when he would occasionally be a substitute history teacher when the regular history teacher was absent.He was an excellent history teacher and wished he would have been the full time history teacher instead of the substitute.To this day I am still a history nut.

Mr. Heino was one of my favorite high school teachers. He was also our BHS class of 85 advisor. I enjoyed all of his classes, but he really made the Civil War come to life! This kind and engaging historian will be sadly missed. Please accept my condolences.
I was in grade school in Mass City when Mr. Heino was our principal. Even tho Mr. Heino never taught me in class I remember him well. Teachers have great impact on the lives of children. Mr. Heino's long career is a testimony to his dedication to his profession.
