ALMA M. EILOLA's Obituary
ALMA M. EILOLA, 66, of Pelkie, passed away Wednesday evening February 25, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. She had been a resident there for 2 weeks. Alma was born May 6, 1942 in Hancock, MI., daughter of the late John and Lempi (Koupus) Byykkonen. She graduated in the class of 1960 from the John Doelle High School. On September 9, 1961, she married Glen R. Eilola in Pelkie. Alma was employed by the Baraga Area Schools as head cook until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Alma was a tireless worker in the school and very active in her church. In addition, she was a Hospice volunteer, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and gardening. Summer would find her at the family camp at Twin Lakes Her grandchildren were a special delight to her.
Mrs. Eilola is survived by her loving husband Glen, son Ron (Michelle) of Pelkie, daughter Karen (David) Harris of Tapiola, grandchildren James, Tia and Cami. She is also survived by 4 brothers; Harry(Donna) Byykkonen of Chassell, Art (Irene) Byykkonen also of Chassell, Howard of Baraga, Wesley (Ann) Byykkonen of Hancock; sisters, Sally (Gary)Johnson and Esther Bohto, both of Eau Claire, WI., Ruth (Robert) Maki, of Houghton and Florence Ketola of Illinois. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her son John, brothers Bob and Edward and sister Nancy.
Funeral services for Alma were held Monday March 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. from Mission United Lutheran Church with Pastors John Autio and Michael Laakko officiating. Spring interment will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family greeted friends Sunday evening at the church from 6 until 8 p.m. and for 1 hour prior to the service on Monday.
