AMELIA A. EMERY's Obituary
AMELIA A. EMERY, 59, of L’Anse, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Baraga Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in L’Anse, MI. on April 19, 1945 daughter of the late Samuel and Jeanette (Monguse) Maki. Amelia attended local schools. She married James Emery in L’Anse on March 30, 1963. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2001. She was employed as a teacher’s aide for KBIC Early Headstart for 18 ½ years. Amelia was a member of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Zeba, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Baragaland Senior Citizens. In her leisure, Amelia enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, and flower gardening. She was proud of her eagle collection. She particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Emery is survived by her loving children, James, Joseph and Mark Emery all of Zeba, Annette (Ron) Emery of Escanaba, and Aimee (Durwyn) Emery of Baraga, 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, brother, Samuel Maki of Green Bay, WI., sisters, Jean (Mel) Clem of Baraga, Carol (Dave) Wettberg of Green Bay, WI., Linda (Mark) LaPine of L’Anse, Judy (Larry) Fullmer of Dewey, AZ., and Diane (Rick) Lessom of Glen Fork, West Virginia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Emery were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2004 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Antony officiating. Interment will take place in the Pinery Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 from 6 until 8:00 p.m. from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. A parish prayer service was recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Following the service on Thursday, friends were invited to join the family for fellowship and luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens, Baraga. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. Mrs. Emery’s obituary may also be viewed at and condolences sent to the family at www.rfsc.net.
