ARNE W. TAKALO's Obituary
ARNE W. TAKALO, 85, of Baraga, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in Pelkie, MI. on July 1, 1919 son of the late Henry and Anna (Wiik) Takalo. Arne attended the Hamar and Pelkie schools and graduated from Baraga High School in 1937where he excelled in football, track and basketball He was a veteran of the U.S.Army. Arne attended Michigan State University majoring in Agriculture. Until his retirement, Arne was a machinist for Tangen Fabricating in Baraga. He always had a deep love for farming throughout his life . One July 23, 1949 he married the former Frances J. Thomas at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2001.Arne was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Baraga American Legion Post 444 , the Michigan Farm Bureau, Baraga Senior Citizens, former Director of The Pelkie Cemetery Association, the Pelkie All School Reunion committee. His leisure interests included league bowling, playing cards and he enjoyed playing the mandolin
Mr. Takalo is survived by his loving children; Roger (Janet) Takalo of Pensacola, FL., Linda (Gary) Wadaga of Baraga, and Barbara (Randy) Trudeau of Marquette, grandchildren; Jason, Kendra and Brandon Turunen, Rachel Takalo, and Gabrielle Trudeau, great-grandchildren; Payton, Carter and Lindsey; a sister Helen Laurila of Redford, MI. 6 brothers preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 1 p.m. from St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga with Father Chacko, Celebrant . Spring interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery . The family received friends on Friday, January 21, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. The Baraga County area veterans under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel Friday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. . The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. Mr. Takalo’s obituary may also be viewed and condolences sent to the family at www.rfsc.net.
