CARLO L. HEIKKINEN's Obituary
CARLO L. HEIKKINEN, 93, of Pequaming, MI passed away suddenly Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the home of his son. He was born in Painesdale, MI. on June 13, 1918 the son of the late Antti and Annie (Hietila) Heikkinen. Carlo graduated from Skanee High School and then attended Michigan State University. On October 12, 1946 he married the former Isabelle DesLaurier. She preceded him in death in 2008, after 61 years of marriage. Carlo was employed as a purchasing agent for the Pettibone Corp. He was a former township supervisor and assessor and was instrumental in developing the Pequaming Properties. Carlo had been the manager of the Co-op store in Aura He was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse, the L’Anse Golf Club, Shriners, L’Anse Bowling League, the L’Anse Baseball League, and was very proud to have been inducted into the U.P.Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Heikkinen is survived by his children Robert Heikkinen of Pequaming, and Barbara (Len) Anthos of Marquette, grandchildren Thomas, Anna, Anthony, Todd, and Jennifer, great grandchildren Greyson, Isabelle, Harrison, Thomas, Nora, Keegan, Kayden, Nolan, and Alexcis, brother Harold Heikkinen, and sister Ellen Corey. He was preceded in death by his sister Esther, and brother Ernest.
Funeral services for Mr. Heikkinen were held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor Greg Mileski officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, friends were invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery at 3 p.m
