DAVID D. "DAVE" GOULET's Obituary
DAVID D. “DAVE” GOULET, 86, of L’Anse, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. He had been a resident there for several years. He was born in Ely, MN. on October 14, 1924 the son of the late Raoul and Emma (Startz) Goulet. Dave graduated from Ely High School. He received Masters degrees, including engineering, mathematics, and chemistry from University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech. He joined the US Navy and served in WWII and the Korean War. He married the former Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Coon on June 28, 1948 in Hancock. She preceded him in death on June 4, 2003. He taught several subjects at L’Anse High School from 1950 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Knights of Columbus, and L’Anse American Legion Post #144. Dave enjoyed gardening, beach trips, taking rides, playing cards, woodworking, visiting, and being around people. He was an awesome cook, especially his homemade soups.
Mr. Goulet is survived by his loving children Raoul D. Goulet of Calumet, Daniel F. Goulet of L’Anse, Michele Kellogg of Goodrich, MI, Andrea (Glenn) Coleman of L’Anse, Renee (Daryl) Birely of Ontonagon, and Yvonne (William) Anderson of Ishpeming, grandchildren David, Aaron, Jennifer, Ryan, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Laura, Lisa, Luke, Holly, Todd, and Kelsey, great grandchildren Mercedes, Claudia, Owen, Greta. Dominic, Guerin, Rylan, Isla, and Gatlin, brother Roy (Dottie) Goulet of Seattle, sister Mary Ellen (Robert Lee) Goulet of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended friends and staff at Bayside Village. Mr. Goulet was preceded in death by his sister Patricia.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Antony, celebrant. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery with graveside military honors. The family received friends on Monday, July 18, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. A Knights of Columbus service was held Monday evening in the funeral chapel at 7 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 7:45 p.m. A scholarship fund for L’Anse students will be established for NMU in Mr. Goulet’s honor.
