DONALD E. BRUNET SR.'s Obituary
DONALD E. “DONNIE” BRUNET, SR., 76, of L'Anse, MI. passed away Wednesday morning, November 11, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Pequaming, MI. on April 1, 1933 the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Velmer) Brunet. Donnie graduated from L'Anse High School in 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Donnie married the former Ethel Roberts in Hancock at St. Joseph Church on August 4, 1956. He worked at Celotex Corp. retiring in 1996 after 38 years of service. Donnie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse the L'Anse American Legion Post 144 and served as a board member at the Baraga County Federal Credit Union, L'Anse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Brunet is survived by his loving wife Ethel, children Debra (Thomas) Lindgren, Cindy (Thomas) Roy, and Donald (Lori) Brunet all of L'Anse, grandchildren Tina (George) Lahti, Jason (Angie) Lindgren, Andrew Lindgren, Stephanie Baril, Ben (Diane) Roy, Justin Roy, Rebecca (Peter) Dove, Steven Brunet, and Daniel Brunet, great grandchildren Trystan and Kolby Lahti, Brenden, Anna, and Carter Lindgren, Maja, Katie, and Ellise Dove. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Mr. Brunet was preceded in death by his brothers Pierre and Clyde, and sisters Marie and Lorraine.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father John Longbucco, celebrant. Mr. Brunet's grandchildren honored him as casket bearers. Interment took place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family greeted friends on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m until the time of the Mass. Friday evening Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service was held at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Following the Mass at the church on Saturday the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral chapel.
