EDLA A. FRANTI's Obituary
EDLA A. FRANTI, 87, of L’Anse and formerly of Covington, MI. passed away at Bayside Village, L’Anse on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Watton, MI. on June 13, 1917 daughter of the late William and Martha (Ranta) Saarinen. Edla attended school in Watton. On July 2, 1938 she married Walfred Franti in Ishpeming. He preceded her in death in 1981. She was a member of the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church. Edla enjoyed caring for her family and had been employed at the Covington Rest Home. She loved her grandchildren, playing scrabble, baking, reading, and sewing. Edla was devoted to her church and bible study. She had been a 4-H leader and a member of the Baraga County Extension Club. Edla enjoyed writing letters to her family and friends.
Mrs. Franti is survived by her daughters, Alice (Allan) Howard of Lake Lure, N.C., and Sharlene (Francis) Kannianen of Covington, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, brother, William Saarinen of Wild Rose, WI., sisters, Helen Hill of Covington and Ellen Tahtinen of Pelkie. Numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. She was precede in death by 4 sisters, and a daughter.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2005 from the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Raynold Lepola officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Friday, June 3, 2005 from 2 p.m. until time of the service. Her nephews honored her as casket bearers. Interment took place in the Covington Cemetery. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
