ELIDA MAE JOKIPII's Obituary
ELIDA MAE JOKIPII, age 83 of L’Anse passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. She was born in Highland, MI. on September 27, 1927 the daughter of the late John and Ida (Simula) Pelto. Elida graduated from Milford High School in 1945. She married Ed Jokipii in Pelkie, MI. in 1949. He preceded her in death in January of 1999. Elida worked as a nurse’s aide at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse and retired after 27 years of service. She was a member of the L’Anse United Lutheran Church. Elida enjoyed dancing, whether it was square dancing or going to the senior dances in South Range, making quilts at church, making clothes, canning, upholstering, and making homemade goodies.
Mrs. Jokipii is survived by her loving children Dennis Jokipii of L’Anse, Kirtland (Melanie) Jokipii of Plant City, FL., Diane (James) Grigsby of Virginia Beach, VA., Jonelle (Timothy) Pope of Waukeshaw, WI., and Lisa (Mike) Giddings of Baraga, grandchildren Dana, Kara, Laurie, Jared, Jessica, Daniel, 8 great grandchildren and 1 soon to arrive, brother, Mervin (Martha) Pelto, sisters, Marcella Manning, Margaret (Calvin) Gantner, and Anita (Ken) Lindblom, sisters-in-law Sylvia Jacoby, Jeanine Pelto, and Jeanne Pelto, and special friend Curtis Menard. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jack and Ron.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jokipii were held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 from United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. The family received friends at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery.
