ELIZABETH J. "BETTY JEAN" GARCIA's Obituary
ELIZABETH J. “BETTY JEAN” GARCIA, 66, of Baraga passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born in L’Anse on July 12, 1941 the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Genshaw) Magnant. Betty Jean attended school in Baraga. She was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens. Betty Jean enjoyed going to bingo, cooking and playing on the computer.
Betty Jean is survived by her loving brother and sister, Gary Magnant of Baraga, and Linda (Donald) Messer of Baraga. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews. and special cousins, Tut and Bev Mayo and Popcorn (Scott) Mayo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph, sister, Janice, and grandnephew, Brandon.
Funeral services for Betty Jean were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor John Henry officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
