I moved away from Covington in July of 2008. I am so sorry to see that my friend Elma had passed away that year. I loved her sense of humor and enjoyed her fun loving spirit on life. We both believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior so I know she is in Paradise walking on streets of gold.. I am truly blessed to have met her and will see her once again when I too go to my eternal home.
I previously spoke w/Joanne, but wanted to leave a note here, too. Ken, Stanley, and Joanne....I loved your mom so very much. (Even though my husband Ken only met her a few times he grew to love her, too.) She was such an inspiration to me as I was growing up. Such a gentle, kind and loving aunt. Our memories of her were wonderful!!! Even my children, John and Duane, recall all the wonderful times we shared at her home when they were young. It was always a FAVORITE-MUST STOP stop during vacation.
I want you to know that you are in my prayers, in your time of sorrow...even though it doesn't ever go away, it does get easier.
I hope to be able to visit with all of you some day soon, when we retire.

I just heard this evening of the loss of your dear mother. Last year I was able to visit with her & Ella in both May and Oct. We had such a wonderful visit each time they didn't want me to leave and asked me to stay overnight. To my cousins, Ken, Stanley, and Joanne, I wanted all three of you to know the high regard which I had for Aunt Elma. Sadly, I never had either the opportunity or the resources to return to the Upper Peninsula since I moved away back in 1993. That was a long time ago, indeed.
But I wanted you to know that you've been in my prayers since Elaine notified me about her passing last week. I finally caught up with this obituary listing and wanted to contact all of you. Your Mom was a very special lady--and I can remember numerous occasions when I had the opportunity to sit in her livingroom and even the times, while your Dad was alive, when we'd sit for meals that your Mom had prepared. You might've needed a shoe horn to get everyone into that little alcove. But the warmth was always there.
Everyone who knew her will miss her a great deal, but carry cherished memories with them forever.

Words can not express how much I miss you. You were the "BEST" Grandmother I could have been blessed with in my life. I know you are know my "Angel" watching me from Heaven. When I look in the sky I see your wonderful smiling face and I know you are at peace. I never dreamed as a child that someday my Grandma would not be there for me to call or come visit. I will treasure our wonderful times together everyday of my life. I love you so much Grandma and always will. I have a picture of you on my desk at work and I look at you so many times during the day with your "Birthday Boy Zack" and just smile. Thanks for being such a special "Mother" to my Dad (Ken)and raising him to be a wonderful role model for me, Doug and Brian. He is a wonderful husband to me Mom and a wonderful Grandpa.

I am married to Mathilda Leppala's son Allyn and Elma, Mathilda & I had MANY wonderful times together over many years. We played endless games of scrabble, laughed & just enjoyed each other's company. I have stopped in to see her several times over the past years & she always remembered me right away & we always had lots to talk about. The good old days especially. I will miss her alot!!

My condolences on your mother and grandmother's passing. Kenny, I hope I have not mistaken you for someone else; you may not remember me from years ago in Michigamme, but I believe I have the right person. My sympathy to you all.
As my brother Steve mentioned, Elma and my mother spent many memorable hours together playing scrabble and laughing. I have many fond memories of her visits and also visting with her through my years growing up. I know all of our family will miss her in our lives here on earth.

My heart aches so bad for all of you in the loss of your very precious mother! She was my aunt but she was also my 'other mother' and I will miss her so much! She was a very, very special aunt that I loved so dearly. She was always there for me, throughout the years. There is no one that could ever take her place in my heart! She is finally at rest, and safe in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Saviour, which she lived for. She lived a long life and was such an inspiration to all of our family. We will always remember the wonderful times we shared with her throughout the years May God comfort you and your families during these trying times.
Elma and my mother (Mathilda Leppala) were close friends for many, many years. They used to go a long walks together and played hours and hours of Scrabble. The humor that they shared with each other was infectious to others. I never recall then having a serious disagreement about anything. Elma and I developed a standing joke between each other so that each time we met, one or the other of us would say, "Oh no, not you again!" I will miss Elma but cherish many fond memories.
