ESTHER E. TAKALO's Obituary
ESTHER E. TAKALO, 88, of Pelkie, passed away Monday, September 1, 2008 at Bayside Village where she had beena resident patient for 4 years. She was born in Atlantic Mine on February 11, 1920 the daughter of the late August and Hilda (Hiltunen) Niemi. Esther attended school in Watton and Covington. She worked at the former Winkler's Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. Esther married Charles Takala in Baraga on April 2, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1996. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, and was a wonderful cook, and working in her flower garden.
Mrs. Takalo is survived by her loving children, Lowell (Martha) Witz of Harpers Ferry, W.V., George Takalo of Pelkie, and Lynn Takalo of Baraga, grandchildren, Bonnie, Randy, Allan, and Gary, great-grandchildren, Cade, and Shane, and son-in-law, Tom Huttunen of Pelkie. Several cousins also survive. She was preceded indeath by her daughter, Jean in 2005, and 2 brothers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Takalo were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 3 p.m. until time of the service. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery.
