JAMES P. GABE's Obituary
JAMES P.“JIM” GABE, 56, of L’Anse passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Laurium, MI. on June 5, 1948 son of the late Joseph and Nestelle (Brunet) Gabe. Jim graduated from L’Anse High School in 1966. He attended MI. Tech. for 1 year. Jim married the former Kathleen Andersen in L’Anse on October 19, 1968. He was employed at Pettibone Corp.for 31 years, retiring in 1997 as quality controller. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus since 1966 and served as Grand Knight for 4 years , the L’Anse Downtown Development Association. He served on the L’Anse Fire Department for 29 years and served as president until 2000. Jim enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting, traveling, and was a Green Bay Packer fan. He will be remembered for a unique sense of humor and playing jokes on his friends whom he loved to be with.
Mr. Gabe is survived by his loving wife; Kathleen; son, James A. (Kristyn) of Baraga and daughter Sara Gabe of Green Bay, WI., grandchildren; Alex, Jacob, and Lauren; brothers, Joe (Betty) Gabe of Skanee and Bill Gabe of L’Anse. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, 1 uncle, 1 aunt and brother and sister in-laws also survive.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Antony, Celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. His fellow firefighters honored him as casket escorts. The family received friends on Monday, February 14, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and for 1 our prior to the Mass at church on Tuesday. Monday evening the L’Anse Firemen conducted a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. Following the Mass on Tuesday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall, L’Anse. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements
