My deepest sympathies to your family. I have fond memories of Mrs. Raymond and my first grade year at C.J. Sullivan Elementary. She was kind and compassionate and helped me through a very difficult year as I dealt with my cousin Lori's death. I feel privileged to have known her.
We are Mary/Martha/Janice/Marjorie, daughters of
Victor and Elizabeth, friends of "Ellen", as we called her.
This summer we were able to visit with her, seeking details of our childhood. She copied entries from her late '30s diary which included
information we were so excited to hear.
Marjorie was a classmate to "Chum", her son.
What a loss... she was an authentic classy, classy woman
My sympathies to those who remain her closest friends. She was a truly gifted teacher and my favorite, even after all these years. I believe my 20 years in a first grade classroom were because of her. Her dedication and love of children is a gift that continues to give. May she live in peace, reunited with her family.
To the family & friends of Mrs. Raymond, I am sorry for your loss. Like many others before me, she also taught me to read. I still remember her in our reading group telling me to read the words and not to memorize the story. To this day, I still remember that our first story was about a red wagon.
Jeanette was my kindergarten teacher in Keweenaw Bay and Harvey was our mailman. Will miss them both.

Jeanette introduced herself in our store (Sew Crazy) about 5 years ago. What a joy! She gave me a run for my money and I loved every second of it! She said some people go to Tech, but I go to Sew Crazy! She loved and would tease our kids, especially Maggie, whom she called Poppy corn! She would stop in for a history chat and tell the kids all about the old days and what to do to be good in school. I don't really think she ever fully retired from teaching as she shared her life experiences with us all the time. She always would compliment us , yet say something to keep us from scratching our head way out here! (as she would say!) It was worth the allergy attack from her cat just to visit her! She was glad to know that the boys finally got their own dog. We will miss her visits, but her memory will live on!
I had the special privilege to teach with Jeanette in the L'Anse School System. As a new teacher she took me under her wing and was a real mentor and ultimately a very special friend. One in whom I could confide and trust. The past few years we had been able to communicate via email and the renewing of our original special friendship was extraordinary. I will miss her.
Like many from my generation, Mrs. Raymond taught me how to read and how to appreciate the written word. Teachers like her don't come around very often. To her friends and family - my sympathies. It was a privilege to have been taught by this great lady.
Jeanette was a great lady. She will be missed by everyone. Thanks to Kathy and Roger Hebert and Barbara Mayo for their excellent care and concern. She was a great inspiration to all of her students that she taught. She will be missed by all including her cat.

What a loss for everyone, she was more than just a member of the BCHS she was a great and dear friend, those idle chats will not be forgotten, she was a true inspiration to us all, always keeping us on our toes. Know you are in our prayers
I shared the loss with some friends from Florida that visited the museum when she was present about 5 years ago, they still communitate and always ask about Miss J. yes she touched lives in a most sincere and real way, she will be missed
