JOHN R. "BUTCH" SELKEY's Obituary
JOHN R. "BUTCH" SELKEY, 58, of Baraga died suddenly Sunday evening, February 26 at his residence. He was born in L'Anse, MI. on May 5, 1947 son of the late Robert and Gladys (Anderson) Selkey. Butch attended Baraga High School. He was vice president of Selkey Manufacturing, Incorporated, Baraga. Butch retired from the company in 2004. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga, the Baraga American Legion Post 444, and the Sons of the Legion. Butch carried on the tradition of growing sweet corn started by his father on the family farm. He enjoyed boating and being on the water, fishing, traveling, hunting, NASCAR racing, and motorcycles.
Mr. Selkey is survived by his brother, Anthony "Tony" (Kathleen) Selkey, sisters, Melanie E. Selkey and Bethany (John) Preston, nieces, Sheryl, and T.J. and great-nephew, Robert, all of Baraga. He was preceded in death by 2 nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Selkey were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Judy Mattson officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 1 p.m. until time of the service. Baraga County Area Veterans under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at 1:30 p.m. Following the services, the family invited friends to join the for fellowship and luncheon at the Baraga American Legion post 444. Memorials in Butch's memory may be directed to the Baraga American Legion Post 444 or the Baraga County Community Foundation. The family has entrusted the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel with arrangements
