JOHN R. "PUTZ" CHARTIER's Obituary
JOHN R. “PUTZ” CHARTIER, 69, of Pelkie, MI. passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Marquette, MI. on May 15, 1936 son of the late Albert and Mildred (Anderson) Chartier. Putz attended Marquette and Baraga Schools. He married the former Frances Kunick in Baraga in 1964. Putz was a former deputy sheriff for Baraga County. He was also a bartender for the former Grandville Bar in Baraga. Putz was employed by the State of Michigan as manager of the Secretary of State office in L’Anse, retiring after 25 years service. He enjoyed old cars and was a member of the Baraga County Car Club.
Mr. Chartier is survived by his loving wife, Frances, daughter Kristine (Steve) Ketchum of Muskegon, MI., grandchildren, Hannah Lieberman and Sarah (Matt) Pawlowski, and brother, Roger Brown of Florida. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie, his brother, Lane and his sister, Susie.
A memorial service for Mr. Chartier was held at 1 p.m., Monday, October 10 , 2005 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Judy Mattson officiating. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family greeted friends on Monday from 12 noon until time of the service. Following the service, friends were invited to join the family for luncheon and fellowship in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. Memorials in Mr. Chartier's honor may be directed to Baraga County Home Care & Hospice. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements
