I had the privilege of serving with, and learning about Joe Waisanen both as a Soldier and a person. A gentle giant, he would go out of his way to help just about anyone who needed it. Always quick with a smile, or a kind word. Even after I lost touch with him, he would cross my mind and I would wonder what, and how Joe was doing. I am dug a complete loss for words to describe my feelings at this point. Joe, I hope you found the peace that life denied you. May God bless, rest in peace.
Although I didn't know Joe, I followed the story about him from the first notice that he was missing. His military service struck a chord with me, and I so hoped that all would turn out well. The sadness I felt upon learning the news of his death is indescribable. My heart aches for you, his family, as you go through this difficult time.
