JULIA M. MAKI's Obituary
JULIA M. MAKI, 88, of Watton, MI. passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit where she was a resident since 2002. She was born August 18, 1919 in Watton, daughter of the late Matti and Ida (Huhtala) Laturi. Julia married Toivo "Dave" Maki in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was employed at the Covington Rest Home for 24 years, retiring in 1991. Julia was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, baking and making homemade carpets, but most of all being with her family, grandchildren and friends. Julia will always be remembered by her smile and kindness to everyone.
Mrs. Maki is survived by her 4 sons, David (Laurice) Maki of Sturtevant, WI., Clyde (Sandy) Maki of Plainfield, IL, Robert Maki and Gerald Maki of Watton, 4 daughters, Leona (Stuart) Delene of Watton, Shirley (Mike) Howard of Arvada, CO., Judy (Dennis) Timm of Sarasota, FL, and Karen (Greg) Lazzari of Watton, 13 grandchildren, Tim (Fabi) Maki and Yvette (Gary) Modlish, Scott, John (Angela Wilson) , James (Julie) and Thomas (Jennifer) Delene, Michael Maki and Jennifer (Josh) Wagner, Ann (Jason) Blake and John (Andree Tanner) Syvertson, Michelle, Michael and Christina Lazzari,14 great-grandchildren, sister, Aili (Eilene) Serresseque of West Bloomfield, MI., and sister-in-law, Vera Maki of Watton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Toivo, Arvid, Arnie, Hemmi, Eli, and Rufus Laturi, and sisters, Tyyne Besonen and Laina Maki.
Funeral services for Mrs. Maki were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
