LOUISE JOHANNA VERTANEN's Obituary
LOUISE JOHANNA VERTANEN, 87, of Keweenaw Bay, MI, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Bayside Village, L’Anse. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Andrew and Louise (Lietzow) Yorger. She graduated from Baraga High School. Louise married William Vertanen of Keweenaw Bay in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1976. Louise was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse, former member of the Extension Club, and had served on the Keweenaw Bay election board. Louise loved family time, particularly time spent with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She always had a roomful of toys and games for the young children and was delighted by their youth. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her fun-loving and caring personality. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Mrs. Vertanen is survived by her son William (Vicky) Vertanen of Keweenaw Bay, daughters Gail Hakola (Norm) of L’Anse, and Julie (Kurt) Kuure of Houghton, granddaughters Kim (Henry) Schwanke, Julie Vertanen, Pam (Aaron) Johnston, Amanda Kuure (Troy), Michelle Kuure (Gary) and Emily (Tim) Viola, great grandchildren Samuel and Claire Johnston and Quincy Schwanke as well as numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia, and a stepsister.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vertanen were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor Greg Mileski officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
