MARGARET POWER's Obituary
MARGARET POWER, age 90, of Keweenaw Bay passed away at her residence on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. She was born in Zborov, Czechoslovakia on March 31, 1920 the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Stefurik) Velgos. Margaret came to the United States at the age of 9. She graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit. In 1944 she married Walter Power at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, Detroit, MI. Margaret worked as an analyst for Parke Davis Pharmaceutical Company and also was secretary to former Governor George Romney for the Automobile Manufactures Association in Detroit. She then worked as the secretary for the superintendent of the Detroit Board of Education and retired in 1982. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church in Detroit. Margaret and Walter vacationed in the area for the past 50 years and moved to Keweenaw Bay following their retirement. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and reading. Margaret will be remembered by a host of dear friends.
Mrs. Power is survived by her loving husband, Walter, son Walter C. (Victoria) Power of Ann Arbor and Macau, China, daughters Suzanne (Bill) Roman of Rochester Hills, MI., and Martha Rusesky of Lansing, grandchildren, Michael, Walter J., Beth, Theodore, Sarah, Joseph, Andrew, great grandchild Natalie, and 1 great grandchild arriving this Fall, sister Martha (Bill) Wilson of Troy, MI. and nieces and nephews Barbara, Kathy, Mary Elizabeth, William, and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph, son-in-law Theodore, and sister-in-law Ola.
A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Power will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, Detroit. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
