MELVIN C. "MEL" MYLLYLA's Obituary
MELVIN C. "MEL" MYLLYLA, 69 of Arnheim, MI. passed away at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse, Wednesday, August 17, 2005 shortly after admittance. He was born in Hancock, MI. on February 16, 1936 son of the late Wesley and Lempi ( Aho) Myllyla. Mel graduated from Baraga High School in 1954. He married the former Nancy Eilola in Hancock, MI. on June 25, 1960. Mel was a self employed farmer and drove school bus for Baraga Area Schools He was a member of Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church, Ottawa Sportsmen Club, and Otter Lake Sportsmen Club. Mel was a former member of Farmer & Merchants Insurance Company, Baraga Soil & Water Conservation District, Baraga County Fair Board, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Growing U.P. Board, Copper Country Dairy, Pelkie Co-op Society, and the Michigan Animal Breeders Cooperative. He was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mel loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Mr. Myllyla is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, children, Joyce (Stanley) Budreau of Arnheim, MI., David (Liz) Myllyla of Marathon City, WI., Betty (John) Kenyon of Simi Valley, CA., Diane Swanson and fiance Peter VanStraten of Baraga, MI. and Janet (Mark) Miller of Arnheim, MI., grandchildren, Jessica Budreau, Joe and Marie Myllyla, Danielle and Nicole Keranen, Kara, Andrew, Tristan, and Victoria Kenyon, Taylor Swanson and Eric and Josh VanStraten, brothers, Kenneth (Rose) Myllyla of Escanaba, MI. and Dennis Myllyla of Arnheim, sisters, Florence (Bud) Bessonen of Escanaba, and June Schaefer of Marquette. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jeremy Budreau and Jake Swanson and his son-in-law, Troy Swanson.
Funeral services for Mr. Myllyla were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2005 from the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Kenneth Storm officiating. Family members honored him as casket bearers. Interment took place in the Askel Cemetery, Askel, MI. The family received friends on Sunday, August 21, 2005 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse, MI. and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials in Mr. Myllyla's honor may be directed to Keweenaw Home Nursing & Hospice, Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church and Baraga Area Schools. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse, MI. has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
