RICHARD W. BEACH, JR.'s Obituary
RICHARD W. BEACH, JR., 86, of Baraga, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Newberry, MI. on July 6, 1922 the son of the late Richard and Ella (Green) Beach. Richard graduated from Newberry High School. Following high school Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the 9th Armored Division. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and was captured and was a P.O.W..He married the former Mary Dubovsky in Newberry. She preceded him in death. Richard was employed by the Department of Natural Resources as a Conservation Officer until his retirement in 1978 following 30 years of service. He was a former Baraga Village councilman and a member of the Ottawa Sportsman's Club. Richard loved children particularly his grand and great grandchildren. He loved animals and the outdoors. Richard played sports in high school and continued to enjoy sporting events. He loved his work as a DNR officer and had a reputation of being a fair-minded and just officer.
Mr. Beach is survived by his loving children, Robert (Della) Beach of Keweenaw Bay, Richard J. “Sam” Beach of Keweenaw Bay, and Mary Ann Froberg of Keweenaw Bay, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother and 2 sisters and his granddaughter, Shelly.
Funeral services for Mr. Beach were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and refreshments in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
