RONALD J. KISSEL's Obituary
RONALD J. KISSEL, SR., 74, of L’Anse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Baraga County Memorial following a brief illness. He was born in Ashland, Ohio on March 6, 1939 the son of the late Virgil and Blanche (Schibley) Kissel. Ron attended school in Ohio, Munising and L’Anse and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1957. He married Mary Watters in 1960 and they had two children, Ron Jr. and Marla. The family moved to Minneapolis in 1974, where Ron was employed as a draftsman. They lived there until 1987. Ron and Mary then moved back to Michigan, and the kids stayed in Minnesota. Ron and Mary divorced but remained close friends until her death last May. Ron worked hard as a draftsman to be a good provider for his family despite many health challenges over the years. Ron was a loving father and grandfather. He will forever be in our hearts.
Mr. Kissel is survived by his loving children Ronald J. (Debbie) Kissel, Jr. of East Bethel, MN, and Marla Vagts of Farmington, MN, grandchildren Calvin, Anna, Melina, Enya Kissel, Amanda and Ryan Johnson, Angela (Jon) Thompson, and Megan and Jenna Vagts, brothers Virgil (Kathy) Kissel of L’Anse, and Bob (Pat) Kissel of Baraga, sister Georgia (Chuck) Ramsay of Green Bay, WI. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A memorial funeral service for Mr. Kissel was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Friday from 12 noon until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
