Dear Bertha, Jim JUST read of Sammys passing in the 'Northern Horizons' magazine. We were just SHOCKED and so saddened by this news...we loved Sammy, he'd come up to Amasa about once a year to visit us, you were with him his last visit here. We looked so forward to him popping in...I remember the 1st time I met him, so clearly. He was a great man, so smart, so kind, gentle and soft spoken...his first words to me were ALWAYS, "So, what are you reading right now?" and the discussion would begin...We would have been there, had we known, which is our fault, for not keeping in touch. I could go on and on, we are still in shock, just know our love is with you, and you and the boys are in my prayers. He will be missed, so much...words cannot express our sorrow. Greyson, Jonas and all Sam's family and friends,

I was so sorry to hear of Sam's passing - way too soon.

I used to visit with Stan when we were together. At that time, Sam and Dana were so warm and welcoming to Stan, myself, and my kids SonniAnn and Meadow - both of whom were also sad to hear of his passing.

Though I hadn't seen Sam in many years, I got updates about him from Stan and Sonni.

I hope you remember only the good things, the wisdom and guidance he gave you all of your years.

I know he will be missed by many. Words that have often helped me, "when you walk through a storm hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of the lark..."

May your lives be enriched by your memories. There's another angel in heaven watching over those he loved.

Grason, Jonas, Bertha,

Sam was a great friend of mine all my life, I grew up with him, we had so many good times together. Just recently I had the opportunity to get on the ski slopes with him and had so much fun, we felt like youngsters again. I have so many memories, and I feel so ashamed that I did not visit more, I know I was the loser for the time I could have spent with Sam. I will surely miss the talke that we did have, and will have each of you in my prayers.

so sorry to hear about Sam - a good man, kind smart, interesting, friend, and avid skiier - gave my kids good tips and encouragement on steep terrain.

Dear Sammy's family,
We were saddened to hear of Sammy's passing and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sammy was a dear friend to us; he was Pete's roommate at Northern years ago. In fact, he and Pete spoke on the phone a few months ago, catching up on life. He always brought a smile to our faces with his awesome wit and he was a "one of a kind" person, so amazingly smart in his way. We were fortunate to visit with him in Pelkie back in the early 1990's and met his family when the boys were quite little.
We remember visiting, also, when we were in college; Bertha you were such a good cook and a loving mother. We know Sammy was so special to you. He will be missed. Know that we are thinking of you at this time.

I was saddened to learn of Sam's recent hospitalization and eventual passing. I always enjoyed my time with Sam, sitting at the kitchen table at the farm enjoying God's creation and our discussions together. He will truly be missed by all his friends.
