WILLIAM P. "BILLY" GABE's Obituary
WILLIAM P. “BILLY” GABE, 55, of L’Anse passed away suddenly Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in Laurium, MI. on June 1, 1952 son of the late Joseph A. and Nestelle (Brunet) Gabe. Bill graduated from L’Anse High School and then attended Suomi College and Michigan Tech University. He was employed as a machinist for Pettibone Corporation in Baraga until his retirement. Following retirement, Billy worked as a bartender for the VFW Club and George’s Tavern in L’Anse where he made many friends who will miss him greatly. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse and the Knights of Columbus. Bill loved the Green Bay Packers football team and enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends.
Billy is survived by his brother, Joseph (Bette) Gabe of Skanee, nephews, Joseph and James and nieces, Christie, and Sara, grand nieces and nephews, Brenna, Vincent, Gabe, Mallory, Alex, Jake, and Lauren, and sister-in-law, Katie. A host of friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father George Maki, celebrant. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse from 6 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass. Thursday evening a parish prayer service was held in the funeral chapel at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus service at 7:30 p.m. The family has entrusted the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with arrangements.
